We’re proud to celebrate the incredible achievement of Lt. Koyan Chamitha of the Sri Lanka Navy Special Boat Squadron—the first Sri Lankan to complete the U.S. Navy’s world-renowned Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training. Ambassador Chung congratulated Lt. Chamitha on earning the U.S. Navy SEAL Trident and on his commitment to bring lessons from this elite American program back to Sri Lanka.

His success is a powerful example of how U.S. excellence in training builds resilience, strengthens maritime security, & deepens U.S.–Sri Lanka cooperation—making both our nations, and the Indo-Pacific, safer.
